Back online Back up! Back up!
Hello once again,
It’s great to be back blogging, I have had a few problems with my website which have frustrated me and taken my focus away from the task of creating an online business. I felt unable to progress with the weekly lessons until this was sorted out. Now thanks to the Helpdesk (Daniel take a bow) I’m back on track).
The problems were self inflicted but this episode has taught me a few lessons which I would like to share with you.
- Make one change at a time to your site.
- Make sure you back up your site BEFORE you make any changes so that you can roll back if something goes wrong. For example, if you are editing your blog simply copy to notepad and save.
- Make sure you apply your changes after editing
- Seek help at the earliest opportunity. The masterclass support desk are amazing click here
- Apply the D.I.Y. rule. i.e. if your not sure what you are doing Don’t Involve Yourself.
- Use the experts, they are good at what they do, this will give you the freedom to concentrate on the important stuff like product creation, ideas and innovation, marketing and traffic generation.
- It is also wise to back up your blog regularly using Export option in the Tools menu. This allows you to download your blog to your PC where you should take the further step of backing up to CD-R or DVD-R. This may sound like overkill when, like me you are just starting out but, when it becomes your livelyhood and the big bucks start rolling in this step will literally be invaluable.
I hope the above is of benefit to fellow Masterclassers. I welcome any feedback or further suggestions.
Success is nothing more than a few simple disciplines, practiced every day.

Hi Ken,
Really good post. Love the DIY bit!! I can empathise with it all – been there recently as I am currently undergoing a tax inspection for 2006 accounts and realise they were all stored on a now defunct computer. Looks like I’m going to have a big bill to pay!
Enjoy the journey.

Hi Ken,
It’s good to have you back. I am always afraid of messing up my blog when I am messing about in the html so I always copy the page to notepad before I start editing. I found your tips very interesting and practical.
Best of luck with the course.
Tracey
Hi Ken, i’m pleased to see you’re back on track.
You’ve covered some good tips here, i’ll bear them in mind.

Ken,
Very sound advice! I agree that the help desk is simply the best. I have written Daniel in the morning about issues and he has gotten back to me within 30 minutes!
I’ve been wanting to add a new header and footer to my blog…but with everything on my plate, I simply must wait until my mind is clearer…and, even then I’ll still need help.
Your blog is great.
I’ll be back…;)
